Machine wash and let it air dry. Skip fabric softener, which coats fibres and is the one thing that will dull the finish. The cooling comes from the fibre itself, so it does not wash out.

It is thermal conductivity, not refrigeration. The knit moves heat away from the contact point faster than cotton does, so the surface never becomes the warm thing your face is resting against.
